Guardian Jobs is winding down. The Guardian confirmed the news to clients this week. Operations stop from 4 September 2026.
What’s actually happening
No new jobs could be posted on Guardian Jobs from Tuesday 1 September 2026 onwards.
Any job already live before that date stays live until its planned end date. Applications on those roles will keep coming through as normal.
The Guardian is now auditing client account balances. If you’re holding credit or had an advance booking, a refund or reconciliation should follow.
The Guardian gave its reason as a shift in focus towards “core digital publishing and reader-funded journalism.” Guardian Jobs staff confirmed they were only told the shutdown was confirmed the Friday before the announcement went out to clients, so this landed with little warning for the team running it too.

Why this leaves a real gap
Guardian Jobs built a specific audience over more than a decade. It skewed towards public sector, education, charity and senior leadership roles, an audience that doesn’t show up in the same way on Indeed or Totaljobs.
Our own data backs that up. Guardian Jobs generated 8.5 applications per job on average, well below Indeed’s 24, but it delivered disproportionately well for Charity and Care & Health sector roles specifically.
If your hiring leaned on Guardian Jobs for that kind of role, that channel is gone. You need a direct replacement, not a like-for-like swap with a generalist board.
Where to advertise instead
For charity and non-profit roles
CharityJob is the closest direct alternative. It’s the UK’s leading board for the sector, reaching around 375,000 candidates a month. Adverts start from £285, and volunteer roles can be posted for free, Trustee roles come with a small fee. It’s the board with the strongest fit for the audience Guardian Jobs is leaving behind in the non-profit sector.
